Hi, my name is Jennifer, and I’m a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist from Miami, Florida. I’m a woman in long-term recovery from substance use and mental health challenges, and my story is one of pain, perseverance, and purpose.

Growing up, I always struggled to fit in. I never really felt like I belonged anywhere, so I found comfort with the outcasts. At a young age, I started drinking and experimenting with drugs—just trying to fill that emptiness inside and find connection. After high school, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia, thinking a change of scenery would help. But instead, I ended up around people who weren’t good for me. I met my oldest son’s father, and that relationship introduced me to a lifestyle that almost cost me my life. Sadly, it did cost him his.

Even then, I knew deep down that I wanted to be a mother—someone my son could look up to. I moved back to Miami to be with my family and tried to get my life together, but addiction had a hold on me. I started using a drug that completely changed my life and turned me into someone I didn’t recognize. I was living in chaos and playing peek-a-boo mom with my son—there sometimes, but never really present.

One day, I got tired—tired of running, tired of hurting, tired of pretending. I decided to go to rehab, and that’s where everything started to change. For the first time, I met people who understood me. People who had been where I was and were now living happy, fulfilled lives. I wanted what they had—to feel comfortable in my own skin and to be able to show up for my family.

I started following suggestions, doing the work, and building connections. Over time, my life began to transform. Today, I’m blessed to be the mother of three beautiful children—two boys and one girl—and to live a life I once thought was impossible. My life isn’t perfect, and challenges still come my way, but now I have the tools, support, and village I always dreamed of.

Recovery gave me a second chance at life, and now my mission is to help others find theirs.
