Corbin's Story: Being in recovery is the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life

Corbin Royce

My name is Corbin Royce. I am a man in long term recovery. I just celebrated 8 years in recovery on March 27th, 2026. I am a father, husband, and an avid outdoorsman.

My journey started at the age of 8 with the lesson that if you want to feel better, take something. That lesson paved the road for my addictions. In active addiction, I endured homelessness and incarceration, as well as dealing with the fears of wanting to be accepted by everyone around me that riddled my life.

I came to on March 26th, 2018 broken by the roads of alcoholism and drug addiction. Not knowing what to do, I called one of my friends who I knew was in long term recovery and finally said those words that I had told myself showed weakness: ”I need help.”

The first year of recovery was amazing, I felt I had everything to gain because I lost everything. After working on my self and character defects, I was able to start living a life that I never dreamed possible for a man like me.

Being in recovery is the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life, but it is also the most rewarding. I have been working in the field as a Recovery Coach for 6 years.

There is a quote from Mark Twain that deeply resonates with me: “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” My “why” is helping others find their purpose and helping them find their journey to their “why”.
